What is PTE?

PTE is the world’s largest English language proficiency test. It assesses the ability of a candidate to communicate in English language. It comprises of four modules i.e. Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

Who accept/recognize PTE?

What are the Subjects in PTE?

PTE comprises of four elements of English language assessment which includes subjects like: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

What is PTE Academic?

Candidates who are planning to study in university/college in English speaking countries or countries where English language skill assessment is a pre-requisite, appear for PTE Academic Exam. Besides if a person wants to register with a professional organisation like the nursing council, medical council etc, in such cases sometimes they ask for PTE Academic test.

Who accepts PTE?

Educational institutions in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, the UK and the USA. Besides Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, UK, USA Immigration authorities, governments, employers and Professional bodies accept PTE which is a commonly used English test. Moreover many foreign Governments, Employers, Professional organisations and employers has also made it mandatory for English proficiency test.

PTE exam booking

Booking PTE is easy. PTE test can be booked online in most countries. The candidates need to check the available PTE test dates, choose an exam centre from any of the hundreds centres which are located around the world, and then register for the test.

The candidates can even do PTE booking from their nearest local PTE test centre.

What is PTE Listening?

PTE Listening is of 30 minutes duration.

Candidates are advised to write answers to a series of questions after making them to listen four recordings which are spoken by the native English speakers.

  • Recording 1 – a conversation between two people set in an everyday social background.
  • Recording 2 - a monologue recording of an everyday social context, e.g. a speech about local facilities.
  • Recording 3 – a conversation between up to four people set in an educational or training setting, e.g. a tutor and a student discussing on a given assignment.
  • Recording 4 - a monologue on an academic subject, e.g. a university lecture.

During the PTE test the examiners look for certain abilities in the candidate such as the ability to understand the main idea and detailed accurate information, the opinions and the attitudes of speakers, the purpose of an utterance and evidence of the candidate’s ability to follow the development of ideas during the given conversations.

What is PTE Academic Reading?

PTE Reading is of 60 minutes duration.

The Reading exam consists of 40 questions, formatted in such a system through which candidates reading skills can be analysed. This contains, reading for main ideas, reading for detail, skimming, reading for gist understanding logical argument and recognising writers' opinions, attitudes and the purpose of the writing.

PTE Reading comprises of three text which are long and ranges from descriptive to factual to the conversational and analytical form. The texts are unusually taken from books, journals, magazines and newspapers. The text are picked up for non-specialist audience but are apt for candidates who are planning to enter university/college programs or processing professional registration.

What is PTE Academic Writing?

PTE Academic writing is of 60 minutes duration.

The PTE Academic writing exams contains of topics which are of general interest and are suitable for candidates which are processing/planning to enter universities and college programs and seeking professional registration too.

The test comprises of two tasks:

  • Task 1 – During this task the candidate are given graphs, tables, charts or diagrams and is asked to describe, summarize or explain the information in their own words. The candidates can be asked an array of questions like to describe and explain datas, describe the stages of a certain process, how something works or describe an object or event.
  • Task 2 – During this task the candidates are asked to write an essay in response to a point of a certain view, argument or problem.

Answers to these tasks must be given in the formal style.

What is PTE General Training Writing?

PTE General Training is of 60 minutes duration.

The test includes topics which are of general interest. Two task are given during the test:

  • Task 1 – Candidates will be given a situation and asked to write a letter requesting some information, or explaining the situation. The letter may be personal, semi-formal or formal in style.
  • Task 2 – Candidates are asked to write an essay in response to a point of view, argument or a certain problem. The essay can be partially personal in style.

What is PTE Speaking & how it is conducted?

PTE Speaking is of 11–14 minutes duration.

During this test the examiner assesses the candidates use of spoken English and every test is recorded.

    Part 1 - The examiner will ask the candidate general questions about the candidate and some familiar topics, such as the candidates home, family, work, studies and interests. This session lasts for 4-5 minutes. During this session the examiner tries to relax the candidate and also does an initial analysis of the candidates ability. Part 2 - The candidate will be presented with a card in which a particular topic will be written and the candidates are then asked to talk on that topic. One minute time is provided to the candidate to prepare on the topic and then they are allotted a time of 2 minutes to speak on the topic. A few questions are then asked by the examiner based on the given topic. Part 3 – During this session the candidate is asked further questions about the topic which is given to them initially. This session lasts for 4-5 minutes.
